From Rome: Tuscany, Montepulciano Tour with Wine Tasting & Lunch
Start early with an air-conditioned bus ride from Rome, enjoying the Italian countryside into the heart of Tuscany. Your first stop is Montepulciano, perched on a hilltop. Your certified tour leader will accompany you uphill (8-10 minutes on foot) to the historic center and the main square, a filming location of the “Twilight” saga. Then enjoy free time to explore or have a gelato. Next, visit a 13th-century winery with a 2,000-year-old Etruscan tomb. Lunch is served in the old refectory once used by the friars (not part of the visit): local cured meats and cheeses with a glass of Montepulciano red wine, then pici with ragù and a second glass of wine. After lunch, continue to Montalcino, the “balcony of the Val d’Orcia”. Your tour leader will accompany you to the historic center, followed by free time. The Temple of Brunello museum and the fortress can be visited on your own. Please note: steep uphill walking in both hill towns. Not suitable for travelers with reduced mobility.
