Caltagirone: Traditional Ceramic Town Walking Tour

Explore Caltagirone on a private guided tour, starting at the Public Garden, one of Italy’s 10 most beautiful gardens, in Liberty style. See statues, majolica, flower beds, the Moorish-style music stage, and the Teatrino Belvedere with city views. Passing the Ceramics Museum, continue to the historic center and the Tondo Vecchio, a theater-shaped terrace with the town’s coats of arms and the Sicilian Trinacria. Walk across the S. Francesco Bridge, a 17th-century bridge with five arches decorated with local relief ceramics. Through palaces and churches in Baroque and Liberty styles, reach the Cathedral of San Giuliano with a majolica dome, frescoes, and a Baroque wooden choir. Nearby is Piazza del Municipio, with Palazzo dell’Aquila and the former Palazzo Senatorio, now the Luigi Sturzo Gallery. The tour ends at the Staircase of S. Maria del Monte, 142 steps decorated with colorful tiles, adorned with flowers during the Infiorata and 4,000 candles for the patron saint’s feast.
